 04-07-02 Brazil Campaign

The Volta Redonda / Barra Mansa area is located about two hours northwest of the city of Rio de Janeiro. These twin-cities came into being about 50 years ago, when a huge steel production facility was built. Volta Redonda is on the east end of the complex, Barra Mansa on the west. The manufacturing complex is approximately 8km in length. The cities have grown around it and joined into one metropolitan area. The population is said to be close to one-half million people. The primary religious affiliation is Presbyterian. There are approximately forty Baptist churches in the area. It was in coordination with the local Baptist association that this trip was conducted. Fourteen people, who ranged in age from about twenty to eighty-five participated in the trip.

The group split into Small Teams of about three people and dispersed throughout the communities of Volta Redonda and Barra Mansa. Teams stayed in the homes of local church members, usually with pastures and their families. Teams participated (with the aid of translators) in church services, public evangelistic activities, private home and business visits, hospital visits, ect. Each team enjoyed a unique experience. The trip finale was a public Crusade Service held in a theatre in Volta Redonda. The group then retreated to Rio de Janeiro  for a brief rest and relaxation period prior to returning to the U.S.
