04-09-28 Brazil Report

Katia and Selma are both working and attending school, as they have been for several years now, in the hope to be able to launch an outreach ministry to specific people groups. The desires and plans that God has laid on their hearts are so very similar to those which were placed on my own heart several years ago (at virtually the same time!) that it is truly amazing. We hope to be able to join efforts and resources in order to reach some people that are in very difficult circumstances (I might add that Katia, Selma, and a few others are already doing some very limited activities to reach the target groups and areas). We pray that others will answer the call as well, because it will take a lot of work and support to carry out these missions.

The Primary Ministry Focus Areas:

 1. Bairro Santa Clara district of Barra Mansa

This is a poor area. There are approximately 30,000 people in this area. Only six Christian churches. Serious social and spiritual problems here.

 2. The Three Frontiers Region of Brazil

Area of southwest Brazil where the Borders of Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina converge. Many different ethnic groups here. Christian influence is very minimal here. Centers of influence in South America of Moslem, Buddhist, New Age, and other religious groups are located in this area.

 3. Taió

City of approximately 17,000 people located in south central region of Brazil. Extremely poor and spiritually oppressed. The primary church affiliation in this area is catholic. Broken families, infantile prostitution, labor exploitation, etc ... are common in this region.

The Bairro Santa Clara project is our primary focus for the immediate future. The plan calls first for establishing community outreach programs that meet some of the immediate needs of people in this area. This will create relationships that will in turn create evangelistic opportunity.
