School Supplies
Since the early early 1990's, we have collected large quantities of school supplies and delivered these to the desolate desert villages in Coahuila, Mexico. Much thanks needs to go to the principals and teachers for allowing us to come to their school during their hectic time at the end of the school year. Many of the teachers place collection boxes where their students can place the supplies from their lockers. At other schools, we send in teams of youth to go through the lockers before the custodian does to glean out the supplies that would be worthy to transport to Mexico. School supplies are primarily collected in
the Lewisville ISD, Keller ISD and Plano ISD's. Teachers and students are ask
to allow us to have the supplies left-over from the school lockers and other
such material that would be thrown away. Crossroads Bible Church led the
coordination effort this year. In past years is was done by various churches
and individuals. Collection:Teams were sent out from various churches and other community organizations in the local support area to gather the supplies and store them locally.
Sorting:At a later date during the summer, the students are ask to help sort, inventory, re-pack the material in banana boxes, and load on a trailer to temporary storage. See: 2004 Sorting
Transporting to Border:The school supplies are loaded on a truck bound for the border.
Distribution in Mexico:The supplies are stored in a warehouse located at Cornerstone Children's Ranch located approximately 20 miles north of Eagle Pass, Texas on the road to Del Rio. The Mexican churches send representatives to pick up the school supplies and then distribute to Mexican children based on the need. See also:
